Pri dvain\u0161estdesetih pa se je odlo\u010dila, da se \u017eeli poskusiti v countryju, zvrsti, ki \u00bbpripoveduje resnico\u00ab, kot je svoj\u010das \u0161la definicija, a se je tudi ta resnica vsaj v okviru industrije \u017ee zdavnaj izgubila v nesrame\u017eljivem spogledovanju s pop glasbo, dokler ni skoraj ali docela pre\u0161la vanjo. Danes \u00bburadni\u00ab country nima pokazati ni\u010d kaj sve\u017eega, prave stvari se dogajajo v \u00bbozadju\u00ab, tam, kjer ni skrbi glede hitre prepoznavnosti in zaslu\u017eka, in tudi nekateri posamezniki, ki jih vedno znova imenujejo \u00bbre\u0161itelji countryja\u00ab, v zadnjem \u010dasu denimo Kacey Musgraves, ki sodeluje z Willejem Nelsonom in Johnom Prineom, nimajo pokazati \u010desa bistveno prelomnega. Cyndi Lauper, zvezdnica pop-rocka, je popotovala nazaj, v \u010dase, ko je country glasba \u0161e vsaj pribli\u017eno pomenila \u00bbtri akorde in resnico\u00ab, v \u010dase Willieja Nelsona, Patsy Cline, Martyja Robbinsa, Lorette Lynn, za konec pa pridala malce sodobnej\u0161o countryjevsko izku\u0161njo.<\/p>\n<p>Stari rockerji in popularni pevci so se na stara leta radi zatekali v country \u2013 ob\u010dinstvo je namre\u010d zvesto in naklade niso nizke; country glasba je z leti postala zanimiva tudi za salone in Vegas, \u010demu tega torej ne bi izkoristili. Dean Martin je. Perry Como je. Nekateri manj, drugi bolj uspe\u0161no in\/ali zanimivo. Roy Orbison in Conway Twitty sta bila denimo povsem doma v countryju. Lauperjeva pa ni pevka country glasbe, \u010deravno ji gredo falzeti dobro od rok. A ne zveni iskreno, kar je bila ena njenih odlik iz \u010dasov popa. Enostavno verjeli smo ji. Zdaj pa zveni kot Huck Finn v vdovini obleki. K temu seveda ne pripomore sterilna produkcija; morda bi bil rezultat nekolikanj bolj\u0161i, \u010de bi zadevi dali bluegrassovsko podlago, tako pa ves \u010das motijo sterilni bobni. Lauperjeva tudi ne frazira kot pevka countryja, avtenti\u010dna enostavno ni; \u0161e najbolj avtenti\u010dno zveni v pesmi Martyja Robbinsa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XsRuAM1fFIo\"><em>Begging To You<\/em><\/a>, ki jo je res u\u017eitek sli\u0161ati. Edina druga izjema bi bila <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QetLDJRDVq0\"><em>Funnel Of Love<\/em><\/a> Wande Jackson, ki ima ravno prav rockerskega ozadja, da Cyndi ustreza; naredi jo nekolikanj v slogu svojega nekdanjega hita <em>She Bop<\/em>. Willie Nelson se ji pridru\u017ei v izvedbi svoje <em>Night Life<\/em>, Vince Gill v izvedbi dueta <em>You&#8217;re The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly<\/em> (svoj\u010das Loretta &amp; Conway), tu je zapu\u0161\u010dina Patsy Cline (<em>I Fall To Pieces<\/em> in <em>Walkin&#8217; After Midnight<\/em>) in Patsy Montana (<em>Cowboy&#8217;s Sweetheart <\/em>z Jewel). Tu je tudi Emmy Harris v naslovni pesmi Paula Westmorelanda, pa Alison Krauss v zaklju\u010dni sterilni <em>Hard Candy Christmas<\/em>, a plo\u0161\u010di ne pomaga kaj dosti. Sli\u0161i se, da sta producenta Cyndi in star nashvillski ma\u010dek Tony Brown (svoj\u010das \u010dlan Elvisove spremljevalne vokalne zasedbe The Voice), ki je odgovoren za ve\u010dino countryjevskega zvo\u010dnega balasta v 1980 in 1990 letih, \u017eelela nekako poustvariti Atkinsov in Bradleyjev nashvillski zvok iz 1960 let, moderniziran, ampak ravno takrat je countryjevska glasba za\u010dela zapu\u0161\u010dati svoje jedro. Ni\u010d slabega, le za Cyndi ni. Z izjemo \u017ee omenjene izvedbe Robbinsove balade, ki je najsvetlej\u0161a to\u010dka te diskografske (upamo, da res samo) digresije.
