Nekje, mislim, da v \u0110uboksu, sem sicer pred tem prebral, da je John Landau zanj napisal: \u00bbVidel sem prihodnost rock and rolla. Ime ji je Bruce Springsteen\u00ab. Spomnil sem se tudi ocene njegove prej\u0161nje plo\u0161\u010de <em>Born to Run<\/em>, ki jo je v reviji STOP napisal Stane Su\u0161nik. Predvsem mi je ostal v spominu stavek, da je \u00bbsaksofon Clarenca Clemonsa kar \u017earel od energije\u00ab. Pritegnil me je ovitek, podobno kot prej tudi ovitek plo\u0161\u010de Born to Run. Kupil sem (takrat vinilni) album in ga poslu\u0161al. Spomnim se, da sem bil nekoliko razo\u010daran zaradi zvoka &#8216;konvencionalnega&#8217;, da ne re\u010dem &#8216;tradicionalnega rocka&#8217;. In to naj bi bila prihodnost rock and rolla? Vendar sem album \u0161e poslu\u0161al in so se mi \u2013 ob strastnem glasu, v katerem sem sli\u0161al zanos, iskrenost, izku\u0161njo, in ob \u010dvrsti glasbeni spremljavi, v kateri sem \u010dutil povezanost in predanost glasbenikov \u2013 po\u010dasi zarezali v u\u0161esa in \u0161e kam posamezni deli besedil, ki mi odzvanjajo v glavi \u0161e dandanes. \u00bb<em>Turn the radio up loud, so I don&#8217;t have to think<\/em>\u2026\u00ab, \u00bb\u2026<em>There&#8217;s a sadness hidden in that pretty face, a sadness all her own, from which no man can keep Candy safe<\/em>\u2026\u00ab<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Predhodni album Born to Run je epsko stali\u0161\u010de, Darkness on the Edge of Town pa liri\u010den intimni dnevnik, v katerem Bruce Springsteen pripoveduje zgodbe posameznikov v obljubljeni de\u017eeli hrabrih in svobodnih, ki bolj ali manj neuspe\u0161no i\u0161\u010dejo svoje prilo\u017enosti, smisel svojega \u017eivljenja, svoje mesto v na videz neskon\u010dni prostranosti, v kateri se izgubljajo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">V drugi polovici sedemdesetih je imel Springsteen kar nekaj \u010dasa, da je \u2013 &nbsp;prete\u017eno na koncertih \u2013 razvijal in preoblikoval pesmi, ki jih je takrat napisal, ker zaradi spora z managerjem ni mogel objavljati plo\u0161\u010d. Tako so na koncu pesmi, leta 1978 objavljene na albumu Darkness on the Edge of Town, predstavljale pre\u010di\u0161\u010den in dore\u010den izbor iz mno\u017eice osnutkov minulih let. Del njih najdete v zbirki <em>The Promise: The Darkness On the Edge of Town Story<\/em>, objavljeni novembra 2010. Dvojni album <em>The River<\/em>, ki je sledil dve leti po Darkness On the Edge of Town, je dodal \u0161e nekaj sorodnih zgodb in zaokro\u017eil ta del Springsteenovega opusa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">16. aprila 1981 sva \u0161la z mojo drago na koncert Bruca Springsteena in The E Street Band v Olympiahalle v M\u00fcnchen. Za\u010del je sam s Factory: \u00bb\u2026<em>somebody&#8217;s gonna get hurt tonight, it&#8217;s the working, the working, just the working life<\/em>\u2026\u00ab Nato so se mu pridru\u017eili \u0161e ostali \u010dlani zasedbe in krenili s silovito izvedbo <em>Prove It All Night<\/em>: \u00bb<em>Everybody&#8217;s got a hunger, a hunger they can&#8217;t resist, there&#8217;s so much that you want, you deserve much more than this<\/em>\u2026\u00ab Dvorana je eksplodirala, stoli v parterju so se razleteli naokoli in morali so prekiniti koncert, da so jih odstranili in je lahko Springsteen z zasedbo nato nadaljeval \u0161e kaki dve uri ali ve\u010d, predvsem s pesmimi iz trilogije Born to Run, Darkness On the Edge of Town in The River. Zaklju\u010dil je s Fogertyjevo <em>Rockin&#8217; All Over the World.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bruce Springsteen se je k temu osrednjemu delu, k svoji referen\u010dni mojstrovini vra\u010dal vedno znova, podobno kot Van Morrison k <em>Astral Weeks<\/em>, Pete Townshend k <em>Jimmyju<\/em> in <em>Quadropheniji<\/em>, Cowboy Junkies k <em>Trinity Sessions<\/em>, Patti Smith k <em>Horses<\/em>\u2026 Tudi leta 2009, ko so se prekaljeni The Boss in The E Street Band v prazni dvorani Paramount Theatre \u0161e enkrat potopili v mrak na robu mesta. \u010cudovit iztek pesmi <em>Racing In the Street<\/em> se je takrat vlekel v neskon\u010dnost, kot da no\u010dejo kon\u010dati, ker se zavedajo, da mogo\u010de zadnji\u010d igrajo skupaj: \u00bb\u2026<em>Some guys they just give up living and start dying little by little, piece by piece, some guys come home from work and wash up, and go racin&#8217; in the street<\/em>\u2026\u00ab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ob poslu\u0161anju pesmi <em>Candy&#8217;s Room<\/em> se vedno spomnim \u0161e ene Springsteenove pesmi iz tistega \u010dasa, ki je na koncu ni bilo na albumu: <em>Because the Night<\/em>. \u0160e ena je kasneje, ko je dozorela, na\u0161la mesto na albumu The River, \u010deprav bi bolj sodila na Darkness on the Edge of Town. To je <em>Drive All Night<\/em>: \u00bb<em>I swear I&#8217;ll drive all night just to buy you some shoes and to taste your tender charms and I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms<\/em>.\u00ab<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Darknes on the Edge of Town je album za vse (tudi letne) \u010dase. Pesmi z njega zvenijo dobro tako v majhnem klubu, v srednji dvorani, kot na stadionu. V akusti\u010dni in elektri\u010dni izvedbi. Poslu\u0161am ga sam ali v dvoje, doma, na pla\u017ei v Ba\u0161ki ali na zabavi.
