Glede na to, da je zalo\u017eba Island na dobrem glasu kot zalo\u017eba, ki je naredila marsikaj za kariere veljakov, kot so <em>Tom<\/em> <em>Waits<\/em>, <em>U2<\/em> in \u0161e marsikdo, da se niso nikoli bali eksperimentirati, se ta izjava bere in sli\u0161i kot malce perverzno samozadovoljstvo nekak\u0161ne multinacionalke, ki pod svoje okrilje milostno sprejme star\u010dka in mu dovoli, da \u0161e naprej hrani svoje lasvega\u0161ko ob\u010dinstvo. Vendar pa je Tom Jones vse kaj drugega kot ostareli popevkar in lasvega\u0161ki zabavlja\u010d, \u010deprav je zadnja desetletja svoje ob\u010dinstvo neumorno prepri\u010deval prav v to. \u017de njegov predhodni album, <em>24<\/em> <em>Hours<\/em>, je z drznimi priredbami skladb tipa <em>The<\/em> <em>Hitter<\/em> (izpod peresa <em>Brucea<\/em> <em>Springsteena<\/em>) dal slutiti, da sir \u0161e ni zapel \u010disto vsega, in da mu je po\u010dasi \u017ee dovolj nalepke \u00bblahkotno\u00ab. Pri\u010dujo\u010di album pa bo vsaj na tej polici obveljal za eno bolj\u0161ih in prepri\u010dljivej\u0161ih izdaj leto\u0161njega leta.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbAlbum himn\u00ab je namre\u010d zelo povr\u0161na oznaka; primerjave s poznim opusom <em>Johnnyja<\/em> <em>Casha<\/em> niti niso tako odve\u010d, Mo\u017e v \u010drnem je bil podobnih let kot sir Jones, ko je posnel svoje najpretresljivej\u0161e pesmi o grehu, kesanju, bole\u010dini, bogu in peklu \u2013 <em>The Man Comes Around<\/em>, <em>Hurt<\/em>, <em>Love&#8217;s Been Good To Me<\/em>, <em>Ain&#8217;t No Grave<\/em> \u2013 in le malo mlaj\u0161i, ko je posnel <em>Spiritual<\/em> <em>Josha<\/em> <em>Hadena<\/em>. On je to po\u010del pod taktirko <em>Ricka<\/em> <em>Rubina<\/em> z zelo asketsko spremljavo (izjema je bil album <em>Unchained<\/em>), Tom Jones pa to po\u010denja pod budnim o\u010desom <em>Ethana<\/em> <em>Jonesa<\/em> z ognjevitim, a nevsiljivim bendom. Zlahka pore\u010demo, da je album <em>Praise<\/em> <em>And<\/em> <em>Blame<\/em> najzrelej\u0161e delo Toma Jonesa do zdaj, \u010deprav lahko kdo zagodrnja: kako pa naj on kaj ve o krivdi, trpljenju in peklu?! Odgovor: Tom Jones je bil vedno najprepri\u010dljivej\u0161i, ko je pel bluesovske in trdosoulovske pesmi, spomnimo se samo pesmi <em>I Feel Like Going Home<\/em>, ki sta jo pred leti izvedla z <em>Markom<\/em> <em>Knopflerjem<\/em>, pa nekaterih njegovih dose\u017ekov iz \u0161estdesetih (gl. album <em>A-Tom-Ic Jones<\/em>). Njegove korenine so vedno bile v bluesu in soulu in prav zato je grenkobne countryjevske pesmi o obsojencih na smrt (<em>Green Green Grass Of Home<\/em>) ali \u0161e grenkobnej\u0161e ljubezenske \u017ealostinke (<em>He&#8217;ll Have To Go<\/em>) zapel tako prepri\u010dljivo. Plo\u0161\u010di Praise And Blame se pozna tudi, da ni pozabil no\u010di, v katerih sta z <em>Elvisom<\/em> <em>Presleyjem<\/em> ob klavirju preskenirala zgodovino gospela (<em>Didn&#8217;t It Rain<\/em>, <em>Run On<\/em>). In \u010de smo \u017ee za\u010deli z Johnnyjem Cashem: priredba <em>Dylanove What Good Am I<\/em> je gotovo nekaj, kar spominja na najbolj\u0161a dela velikega mo\u017ea.<\/p>\n<p>Nova, resni\u010dnej\u0161a sivolasa podoba in novi album sta korak naprej v obnavljanje umetni\u0161ke integritete, ki si jo je Tom Jones neko\u010d pridobil in jo spotoma izgubil zaradi prilagajanja trgu. Njegovega glasu se to seveda ni dotaknilo, pa tudi leta ne: pridobil je nekaj \u017eameta v ni\u017ejih registrih, rjove pa \u0161e vedno kot v\u010dasih. Loteva se pesmi <em>Billyja Joeja Shaverja<\/em> (<em>If I Give My Soul<\/em>), <em>Johna Leeja Hookerja<\/em> (<em>Burning Hell<\/em>), koplje po starem gospelu (<em>Ain&#8217;t No Grave<\/em>, <em>Nobody&#8217;s Fault But Mine<\/em>, <em>Don&#8217;t Knock<\/em>) in \u010deprav bi Praise And Blame teoreti\u010dno lahko bil tudi album himn, je precej ve\u010d kot to: je konceptualni album o molitvi in krivdi, o dobrem in slabem in o poti, na kateri se lahko prikopljemo do resnice. Ki pa je, ko odpremo knji\u017eico, resnici na ljubo nekolikanj izkrivljena \u2013 Tom Jones seveda nima kaj dosti opraviti z avtorstvom teh pesmi, to je pa\u010d marketing. Ki si tokrat prislu\u017ei oznako Blame.
